Childhood homelessness and housing insecurity: A curriculum for pediatric residents

Kim G, Qua K, Clark M, Furman L
Academic Pediatrics

Housing insecurity remains a significant problem throughout the United States, affecting millions of households. Homelessness is the most extreme form of housing insecurity, and children account for nearly 1 out of 5 individuals experiencing homelessness. It is well established that insecure housing adversely impacts child health and development with lasting effects throughout the life course. However, this content has traditionally received less attention during pediatric residency training and lacks exclusively dedicated curricula. We aimed to develop, implement, and evaluate a curriculum on homelessness and housing insecurity in order to bring this critical issue to the forefront.
