This commentary explores how the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) 2026 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) proposed rule brings Food Is Medicine strategies, such as medically tailored meals, into the spotlight. It highlights the potential for pharmacists to play a transformative role in linking nutrition-based care to chronic disease management, while addressing the policy, reimbursement, and practice barriers that remain.
