Using insights from families to improve social needs screening and support community resource connection

Luke MJ, Darko O, Vasan A

To align with caregiver preferences, social needs screening programs should clearly convey the purpose of screening, prioritize caregiver privacy and confidentiality, provide transparency around sharing social needs information, and ensure families receive meaningful, longitudinal support in connecting with resources.

We must ensure that health systems not only screen for social needs, but also provide meaningful, family-centered, longitudinal support to all families in need.
